J.J. Abrams Explains Missing Trailer Scenes From Star Wars: The Force Awakens

WARNING: Spoilers ahead!

So by now you may have noticed that several scenes from the Trailer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens didn’t make it into the movie.

The creepy snow wilderness scene where Kylo Ren ominously engages his lightsaber is one such scene.

EW recently interviewed The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams and asked, what gives?

"There were a bunch of things we ended up not using."

J.J then further elaborated a bit, but not much.

"Sometimes you discover that things you would have cut off a limb to shoot on the day are absolutely inconsequential, and in fact less impactful than if you were to remove it."

One possibility is that prior to the release of the movie, Kylo was promoted as an extremely dangerous and powerful Sith-like Villain. In fact, many fans had even speculated that he was more powerful than Vader!

But after seeing the movie, in a sort of twist fashion, we find he is basically a whiny Sith in training. Sort of like Anakin . . . and Luke . . . hmm must run in the family!

It could be that this shot was extremely useful while anticipation was building for the release, but as we saw in the film, by that point it was already revealed he had much to learn and was more of a villain in the making as J.J. had also pointed out recently.

Including this shot at that point would have felt a bit awkward, as he was not as dangerous as we had thought.
